Bossy “R” Word Sorts

Worksheets

This pack of word sorts provides practice for students ready to learn about r-controlled vowels.  All 5 lists include 15 one- and two-syllable words for studying each of the different vowels.  According to Orton Gillingham, “er” should be taught first, followed by “ir,” “ur,” “ar,” and then “or.” The sorts can be used for a variety of purposes from weekly spelling work to intervention sessions focusing on phonics rules.  The worksheets are meant to be cut so words can be glued in student notebooks or kept in envelopes to be brought out for review throughout the week.  This resource can be used for word study in classrooms kindergarten through fifth grade or in intervention work for students of all ages.  Great for teachers and parents utilizing the Orton Gillingham methodology.
